About the Artist:
Doug Shealey, was born and grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. The middle child
of three boys, he is the only one to take up Art as his profession. His talent
derived from his mother’s side of the family. At the age of 7, young Shealey
was fascinated by his uncle Norman Sturgeon’s ability to paint. His
grandfather, Allard Sturgeon, was a gifted painter and picture framer. Upon
attending The Rabun Gap Nacoochee School, in Rabun Gap, Georgia and graduating
from Olympia High School, in Columbia, S.C., Shealey, sought out and received
private art lessons from the late great Gil Petroff, of Saranac Lake, New York.
This nine year process proved to be most beneficial in the studies of
Architectural Rendering and Watercolor painting. Another great influence was the
summer workshop of one of America’s top watercolorists, John Pike, in
Woodstock, New York. Upon graduation from Columbia College, B. A. fine arts
1981, the artist was an architectural illustrator for the architectural firm of
Stephens & Wilkinson of Columbia, S.C. Since 1984, Shealey, has been self
employed as an independent architectural illustrator.
Being somewhat of an athlete, the artist has always had a strong interest in
sports. About seven years ago, he decided to focus his talents on sports
facilities. One of the most fascinating aspects of my work is to see, up close,
the various stadiums in the South. As well as, the privilege of meeting so many
great people alone the way.
A Special Note to Gator Fans:
Thank you for taking a look at my painting of THE SWAMP. When
I start a painting I have a pretty good idea of how the finish painting will
appear. However, due to the fact that the Architectural additions to the
facility were then and still are under construction. I was forced to work from
the Architectural drawings to complete this rendition. I have been told by the
Architectural Designers that my rendition is in accordance with the plans. Over
the past years I have completed over 500 Architectural Renderings. This piece
represents my very best work. It took 2 years to complete this masterpiece. I
hope that you enjoy it as much as I do and find that I have done justice to this
wonderful facility at your great University.
Thank You and Best Regards,

The Artist Doug Shealey
